This page deals with the grinding hand tools known as files. If you are interested in digital files, see Help:Files for advice on embedding files into this wiki or file formats for documentation about file types commonly used with our machines.

Coarse files are called rasps.

Needle Files

Needle Files

Synonyms: DE: Nadelfeilen
Type: hand tool
Material: metal, plastic (not well)
Similar (More or Less): rotary tool, sandpaper

These diamond-coated needle files can be used to smoothen 3D prints, but PLA will turn white at the treated spots. Heat may restore the color if applied carefully.

Metal Files

Metal Files

Tool-default.png
Synonyms: DE: Metallfeilen, Werkstattfeilen
Type: hand tool
Material: metal, wood, plastic
Location: metal workshop
Similar (More or Less): disc grinder, bench grinder, rasps

Although primarily intended for metalworking, these files can also help you smoothen sharp edges of wooden workpieces that would quickly wear down a piece of sandpaper.

Please clean the files with a brush when you are done using them.
