This page deals with the grinding hand tools known as files. If you are interested in digital files, see Help:Files for advice on embedding files into this wiki or file formats for documentation about file types commonly used with our machines.
Coarse files are called rasps.
Needle Files
| ToolInfoBox Needle Files | |
|---|---|
| |
| Synonyms: | DE: Nadelfeilen |
| Type: | hand tool |
| Material: | metal, plastic (not well) |
| Similar (More or Less): | rotary tool, sandpaper |
These diamond-coated needle files can be used to smoothen 3D prints, but PLA will turn white at the treated spots. Heat may restore the color if applied carefully.
Metal Files

|---|---|

| Synonyms: | DE: Metallfeilen, Werkstattfeilen |
| Type: | hand tool |
| Material: | metal, wood, plastic |
| Location: | metal workshop |
| Similar (More or Less): | disc grinder, bench grinder, rasps |
Although primarily intended for metalworking, these files can also help you smoothen sharp edges of wooden workpieces that would quickly wear down a piece of sandpaper.
Please clean the files with a brush when you are done using them.
