Safety
Always follow all safety precautions covered during the Stationary Sander Introduction.
In particular:
- Only sand on the downward-moving side of the disc (left side). This pushes the workpiece towards the table instead of away from it.
- Keep both hands on the workpiece or jig and apply only light pressure.
- Keep fingers, loose clothing, jewellery and long hair away from the sanding disc.
- Keep the gap between the sanding disc and table as small as possible (maximum 2 mm).
- Always wear safety goggles.
- Use dust extraction when sanding wood and other suitable materials.
- Turn on the air filters to further reduce dust levels.
- Never leave the machine running unattended.
- Unplug the machine before servicing or changing the sanding disc.
The DS300 has a large, heavy sanding disc and is substantially heavier than the small disc sander on the Holzmann BT 203-914. Do not underestimate the forces involved when working with larger or awkwardly shaped workpieces.
Maintenance
The machine does not require extensive maintenance. Have malfunctions and defects serviced by trained persons only.
Regular maintenance:
- After each workshift: Remove chips and sanding dust from the machine and surrounding area.
- After every 10 hours of operation: Check all screw connections and tighten them if necessary.
- Sanding disc: Refer to the manual for instructions on removing and replacing the disc. The table needs to be removed for this on the DS300.
Sandpaper Cleaning
You can often extend the life of sanding discs by briefly sanding a piece of rubber. This removes accumulated dust and fibres from the abrasive surface.
A proper sander cleaning stick is ideal, but the sole of an old shoe can apparently work surprisingly well, too. Any donors? ;-)
Notes
- The DS300's disc rotates at a relatively low speed compared with the disc on the Holzmann BT 203-914, but its larger diameter and heavy construction provide a very stable sanding surface.
- Move the workpiece across the sanding surface where practical rather than sanding continuously in one spot. This helps distribute wear and heat more evenly.
