Date/Time: 05.06.2019
Attending Managers: Patrick, Mitja, Lukas
Attending Members: Martin, Keno, Georg, Lars, Kim
Topics
Here's the list so far - please don't hesitate to add more! If you won't be able to attend, you can add your comments here or in the discussion to take part anyway :-)
Project Presentations
Let's take about 2 × 20 minutes before each plenum to show others what we're working on! If you are interested in talking about your projects, please announce it here and/or via the Mailing List:
- Martin presented about his adventures in home-automation (HASS IO)
- He now can check his dryer while sitting on the toilet
- He can also now kill his plants remotely by checking on them via the web interface and still not water them
- <please add your idea(s)!>
Recap of the last plenum
- The Marketing Meetings were lacking participation. Is there any feedback why people did not attend?
- Only Ciaran and Martin attended the meetings and talked about the state of the website
- Website is needed to give interested people a brief overview about the Space
- The wiki is too complex for new people
- Many people think we are a mostly commercial entity which is not the case - the new website should reflect this better.
- A site hosted on GitHub would allow more people to quickly edit (e.g. for a blog function)
- Lars suggested to split the "design" and "content" parts to not get stuck in details
- Martin showed the current state of the issues on the issue tracker
- Lukas suggested to first copy-paste the old content and then edit it step-by-step
- Lars offered to help next week Wednesday (19:00 for 1h) to find a good concept to work together on
- For future marketing meetings it would be better to give concrete/focused tasks
- E.g. Let's design a poster for future Maker Faires
- This could also be labeled as "Do-something hours"
New (and newly available) tools at the space
- Makita DDF484 Cordless Drill
- Thanks to Ed we have a new cordless drill (without batteries)
- Patrick asked on the mailing list and on Telegram who would chime in to buy some batteries.
- We collected some of the donations during the meeting and Patrick has already bought the batteries and charger ahead of time
- Johannes brought in a new Weber grill (kettle BBQ) as a loan.
- Luca loaned a soldering station.
- Lukas bought a set of auger bits
- Martin bought two new bandsaw blades
- Martin bought new sanding pads for the Oscillating Tool
- Martin bought some noise reduction for the CNC Room (Let´s hope it works)
- Johannes, Kim and Martin bought and installed a new freezer! (Please respect the freezer rules)
- Lukas documented the Bosch Jigsaw and got it out of commissioning
=> also see "Wish List"
Collaboration possibilities
Who's not in our Mailing List or Telegram Group yet? Also check out Category:Community!
Bahnstadtfest
- The Bahnstadtfest is coming closer (July 20th)!
- Does anybody have a project they could show there?
- who else would like to help out during the day (at our stand or volunteering at food stands or Bahnstadtlauf)?
- Project idea: Engrave some coins (wood or metal) with visitors names and the CoMakingSpace logo
- Lukas asked about what language we should use for the issues. He suggested to use German as only people who can speak German are helping.
Do-something days
Johannes and Martin are planning to host a do-something day this weekend. Patrick asked for it to be focused on clean-something. Who is willing to join?
Current projects that are looking for collaborators
Issues
closed issues since the last plenum
new issues since the last plenum
-> especially important:
- the upcoming KiCad Seminar needs PR support
- be aware of potential safety risks with the router table footswitch!

Event Ideas
Maus-Türöffnertag
Lars brought up the idea of participating in the Maus-Türöffnertag via the Mailing List. We should discuss possible projects and a possible orga-team:
I've been watching the german "Sendung mit der Maus" (kind-of "How-its-made" for kids) for the past 32ish years - especially since I got three forks of my own. Every year on October 3rd, there's the Maus-Türöffnertag, where kids can register and come to do something exciting with (or without) their parents. I'd love to get the CoMakerspace into the program, which would also generate some publicity.
We'd have to provide some projects for that, suitable for kids of a specific age range (e.g. 6-10 or 8-12). Ideas:
- Building small robots from a toothbrushhead, a battery and a vibration motor (age 6+)
- Bending and welding little robot figurines from thick wire, threaded rods, washers and nuts (bending for 6+, welding 10+ with assistance or only from helpers?)
- Soldering small kits like a mini-tesla-coil: https://www.ebay.de/itm/401634796641
- Sowing ugly animals (kids draw a fantasy animal, which is then cut and sown from leftover materials)
- Whatever you can think of
- Project:Counter_Board
Let's talk in the plenum on benefits, cost and risks - e.g. insurance? Is it possible to make the space semi-childsafe for the target group?
Lars will open an issue and offered to be the main organiser. People who are interested please make yourself known in the issue tracker.
Coder Dojo
We got a request from Sonja of "CoderDojo":
Would anyone be interested in organizing such events in our Space?
Makers Flea Market
Andi (not our Andi!) proposed a makers flea market in heidelberg in the whatsapp group, since he would have some stuff to sell. He also offered to organize some benches and tables in order to enable people to present their stuff.
We should discuss what would be needed for such an event, whether we want to host it and if yes, when.
The idea was received well during the plenum and we should organise something like this at the CoMakingSpace. If someone feels they want to plan such an event please open an issue. A Sunday in August was discussed as a possible day. A doodle was opened to find a suitable date. Please vote!
Eddel suggested to get some sponsors like Conrad to sponsor that event (while having a table on their own).
Repair Café
We've had this idea floating around for a while but Repair Café Heidelberg already had a cooperation partner/host (Haus der Jugend) - now that changed and they asked us to cooperate with them for the quarterly event! Who's interested? At the minimum we need an experienced volunteer to supervise the Space, but ideally also motivated tinkerers who would like to help with the repairs and tell people about our Space and the joy of joining or donating ;-)
The last event at their old location was in the beginning of May, so we are probably looking at events in August and November this year.
It was discussed that the tools in the workshops are a no-go during the repair-cafe. Let's try this with two events this year.
Open Discussion
This is the place to talk about general improvements etc. - for example:
- What did I do since the last plenum?
Johannes re-wired the door bell. It now has a switch which allows you to change back to the boring old bell in case the awesome new one breaks.
- What am I planning to do until the next plenum?
- What went wrong?
- What went well?
- What should get done at the space (new issues)?
- Lars had some improvement ideas to the introduction system as it is currently quite slow and dependent on the tutors
- Have a general introduction for types of tool like 'it rotated', 'it makes dust'
- Have a checklist of the 'most typical errors' to be aware of.
