We have a laminator in the common room that is useful for conserving paper signs etc. by sealing them in plastic. Our equipment QR codes are usually laminated, for example.

Disadvantages
Lamination creates waste - the signs are difficult to change and nearly impossible to recycle! If you have full A4 signs that may be adapted over time, it's usually good enough to simply put the paper into a reusable document pouch.
