Aluminum

Synonyms: aluminium (British & DE)
Suggested Tools: hacksaws, pipe cutter

Aluminum is a soft and lightweight metal. It is not magnetic and shows virtually no corrosion. Due to its low melting point it is often extruded into pipes and profiles.

Shaping

Cutting

Hacksaws (or a pipe cutter if you're dealing with a pipe) can cut aluminum. Cutting sheet aluminum should also be possible with fretsaws or our scroll saw, but we haven't tested that yet.

Caution - abrasive discs as used with a disc grinder or rotary tool are reported to overheat and fail as the soft aluminum clogs them!

Joining

Aluminum can be brazed rather than welded.
