Twist drill bits are rather universal drill bits and can be used to drill into metals and plastics. They somewhat work for wood as well but you would typically rather use wood drill bits unless we don't have the correct size.
Twist drill bits can be sharpened over and over, so don't throw any dull bits away but let someone show you how to renew them! If one break, please just get a replacement or report it.
