This page is OUTDATED and may no longer be accurate in important aspects!
Please head over to the new page "Reciprocating Saw Introduction" that will from now on serve as a replacement. If the old page was an introduction page, it is vital that you read the new one before using the described machine(s) again!
This is the content required for an introduction to our jigsaws - reading this does NOT replace the mandatory session with a tutor! It will make it a lot quicker though ;-)
Let's begin! First off, make sure you have read the tool's manual (Parkside PSTD 800 A1: pdf here).
Safety
Dangers
- sharp oscillating blade
- generates dust and small chips
- generates noise
- no prevention of turning on after loss & restoration of power (keine Anlaufsicherung)
Precautions
- make sure the blade path is free and you won't cut into the table or similar
- secure the workpiece with clamps so nothing shifts and nothing large falls down once the cut is made
- wear goggles
- perhaps also wear a dust mask (depending on the material you're cutting)
- wear ear defenders
- hook up the shop vac (and deactivate the "dust blow" function of the saw, if available)
- make sure the locking lever isn't "on" before plugging the saw in (the trigger should move freely)
Demonstration
Besides these safety notes, you should know which type of blade is suitable for the saw you want to use and how to change blades - the tutor will show you!
