A miter box is a simple jig to make repeated cuts at approx. 90 or 45° easier with hand saws.

Its advantages are ease of setup and the ability to safely clamp just about everything, even round or irregular pieces that could be dangerous to cut with a machine.

For better accuracy or different angles though, you could...

  • make a new miter box with slots that exactly match your saw
  • use a miter saw
  • use a powered chop saw (introduction required!)
