Glue sticks are mainly useful for sticking pieces of paper products together.

Removal
Typical glue sticks are water soluble. This is useful when temporarily gluing paper to a piece of wood, e.g. scroll saw templates. However, masking tape is even easier to remove and you may want to glue your template on top of a layer of tape rather than directly on the wood!
