We have a bike repair stand in our metal workshop.

Besides holding your bike up and preventing its parts to move too much, it can also assist you with holding tools and parts as there is a magnetic tray/toolholder on it.

If you need to have your bike horizontal for some reason, try using the stand in combination with a benchtop or vise.
