Wall Anchors

Synonyms: screw anchors, plastic dowels,
wall plugs; DE: Schraubdübel, Dübel
Suggested Tools: masonry drill bits, hammers, knives

Wall anchors are used to support screws in hard, hollow or brittle materials.

A handy trick for inserting them into holes that are crumbling at the edges is squeezing in some hot glue just before adding the anchor which will improve the substrate properties. If the wall does not allow you to drill quite deep enough, you can often cut off a few mm of the anchor with diagonal pliers or a sharp knife once it is in the wall without losing too much strength.
