Many kinds of stone can be [[laser]] engraved! There will certainly be differences between some minerals, but it seems most yield a lightly colored engraving. Test with a similar stone if you can!
 
Slate ''(Schiefer)'' is particularly popular due to the high contrast you can achieve.
 
To let the engraving pop on any{{CN}} kind of stone, go for a "wet look" by applying wax or [[Clear Lacquer|clear lacquer]]!
