Welding wire is used in GMAW and acts as both the electrode and the filler. It is sold in different thicknesses, alloys and spool sizes. Be careful when handling it as its springiness unwinds it from the spool and leaves you with a tangled mess when not constrained (way worse than 3D printer filament)!
The thickness needs to match the tip of the welding gun and the alloy needs to be compatible with your workpiece.
Also, the spool needs the fit the machine.

We currently have this wire at the Space (the only shared spool as of 2025-9):
- universal copper coated welding wire / Universal-Schweißdraht verkupfert
- diameter: 0.8 mm
- for steel (un- und niedriglegierte Stähle)
- spool size: 5 kg / D 200
- prod. no. 52589
- manufacturer's website
