Colored card is a thick (300 g/m² seems to be common) paper variety commonly used in craft projects due to its stability and wide range of available colors.
Ideas
laser cutting/engraving
Besides cutting the card with small tolerances you can engrave it. The laser "destroys" the pigments and leaves a lighter/white surface. The maximum realistic resolution is about 400 dpi.
