schematic of what a slicer does with your model

A slicer is a program used to convert 3D files such as STL to G-code that can be interpreted by a 3D Printer. It basically divides the 3D model into 2D layers with travel directions for the printhead.

In the slicer you choose important parameters such as layer height, wall thickness, support, and print speed.

For the 3D printers at the CoMakingSpace we recommend PrusaSlicer because it's open source and developed by Prusa Research, "our" brand of printers.
