JPEG (or JPG) is a common format for digital images. These pixelated and often compressed files are fine for many purposes, but you may want to vectorize an image before incorporating it into logos or other scalable and clean designs.
High-quality photography relies on JPEGs with very low compression or less lossy formats such as RAW or TIFF.
Useful Tools
- GIMP for just about everything
- Image Resizer for Windows: adds context menu option to quickly resize one or several files, e.g. for web upload
