This is the content required for an introduction to our jointer-planer combination machine - reading this does NOT replace the mandatory session with a tutor! It will make it a lot quicker though ;-)

Let's begin! First off, make sure you have read the machine's manual (felder-gruppe.at (DE), (EN))

This is one of those machines that can cause very serious injuries when something goes wrong, so do not use if you are alone in the Space.

radidly revolving knives - exposed at the top (jointer): draw-in and cutting danger	use the blade guard to only expose as much of the blade as needed never remove the blade guard! do not wear loose clothes, dangling jewellery or open long hair keep your fingers together when you guide the workpiece, do not spread them (nicht die Finger abspreizen) the hand at the back of the workpiece is especially in danger of touching the knives never hold the workpiece from behind - keep your hands on top and a hand's width away from the edges use a proper push block whenever possible pieces that are narrow and flat may only be jointed with the help of a secondary fence your fingers can glide over [1] do not joint any workpiece under a hand's width in both directions until we have made such a fence and cleared it with the manufacturer
kickback: the jointer may grab the workpiece and throw it back to the infeed side	inspect your workpiece for difficult areas in advance, knots are tricky enough but loose knots need to be removed! start with a low cutting depth - only very soft woods with an even grain can be jointed with several mm at once, rather take many shallow passes! stand next to the machine where you can comfortably put downward pressure on the outfeed side without walking during the pass push blocks for the jointer require a "lip" that grabs the end of the board - friction-pushing on top is not sufficient
