Biscuit Joiner Introduction
From CoMakingSpace Wiki
This is the content required for an introduction to our biscuit joiner - reading this does NOT replace the mandatory session with a tutor! It will make it a lot quicker though ;-)
If you need this introduction, please reach out to the following tutors: Lukas, Lars
First off, make sure you have read the tool's manual.
Safety
(a dust mask could also be necessary depending on your material)
Dangers | Precautions |
---|---|
exposed & rapidly spinning milling disk
|
|
flying splinters and dust | |
the tool might move due to the force of the milling disk | always hold the machine in both hands (black handle and orange body) and only push into the wood slowly |
no prevention of turning on after loss & restoration of power (keine Anlaufsicherung) | if the power has been lost for whatever reason, make sure the router is turned off before restoring it! |
the disk gets extremely hot
|
take breaks, be careful when you need to touch the disk |
Demonstration
The tutor will show you these steps in detail:
- dialing in the cutting height and biscuit size
- the height ruler refers to the center of the cutter, so you don't need to subtract its thickness
- there are different biscuit sizes (0, 10, 20)
- setting the cutting angle
- aligning the tool with your workpiece
- working on horizontal and vertical cuts
- practice cut!
