We have several regular hammers (DE: Schlosserhämmer) and a "shoemaker's hammer" (DE: Schuhmacherhammer).

A couple of tools are used together with a hammer, e.g. center punches, hole punches and drift punches.

placing a piece of scrap wood between your workpiece and a hammer helps to avoid unsightly dents and discolorations
when you feel the head loosening, try hitting the hammer on a hard surface with the handle down - if that does not help, report it as broken!
