This project was born out of the need to reclaim some space in our apartment and our section of the basment.

Currently our dirty shoes and boots take up a lot of space in the hallway or on shelves that are better suited holding other things.

The Process

Inspiration

"Honey, all of your shoes that you brough with you are taking up too much space on my shelves. I had an idea, maybe we get a shoe rack to put in the basement. Oh and since you are not working yet would you want to make one? You could use up that material that was left over after you fixed that other thing! I think something "simple" like my parents have in the hallway would be perfect!"

  I thought this would be enough material

  I found scrap materials that might work with my idea

  new idea and started to make it happen

  scrap was all different lengths, and needed to be cut

  Rough layout, with a second shelf on top

  attempting to layout the curent idea of joining all the pieces

  not happy with the execution of the idea. more conversations needed

  cut thr rods and file the ends. (there was close to 1m length of M10 rod left and i left it in the worshop to be used by someone else. it is still there as of 11.10.23)

  drilled holes in the legs, and made a rough assmebly. found some things to improve through another conversation

• 

  the legs were really rough. I got an introduction to the handplanes and made them smoother

• 

  after assmebly in my flat with the new changes. it was not stable. Had to use the X, but instead of wood used steel wire.

• Needed another tool intro to make the thing look nicer
• Brought it home
• Had a conversation with the boss.
• Now waiting for the boss to bring more material, as per the discussion.
• The boss forgot the materials from home.
• I bought those materials from BAUHAUS
• I finished the project.
