Food safety
3D-printed object should generally not be used in contact with food for various reasons. These are the most common problems and possible solutions:
- Lead and Contaminants: Brass nozzles may contain traces of lead and previously used filaments. -> So use a stainless steel nozzle and in best case only this filament with this one nozzle.
- Additives: While a lot of filaments are fundamentally food safe, additives such as colours may not. -> Some filaments are certified as food safe but they may cost more. (Some shops also declare some of their products as food safe)
- Hygiene: Because of the layer lines in FDM printing that are hard or impossible to clean, prolonged/repeated use is not advised. -> Fill the gaps with food safe epoxy, use it one time only or clean it hot enough to kill anything sticking to it. The latter would require a filament with higher glass transition temperature such as ABS. (This ABS could be fitting) => The easiest way would be to wrap the cutters in a food safe film this avoids all of said problems
