Scroll Saw Introduction

This is the content required for an introduction to our scroll saw - reading this does NOT replace the mandatory session with a tutor! It will make it a lot quicker though ;-)
Let's begin! First off, make sure you have read the machine's manual.
Safety
perhaps also a dust mask (depending on the material you are going to cut)
| Dangers | Precautions |
|---|---|
| rapidly moving arm and blade | never reach under the clear blade guard when the saw is running - that way your fingers will always be at a safe distance from the blade |
| binding teeth could pull the workpiece up and out of your hand | make sure the blade's teeth point downward so they press the workpiece against the table when cutting |
| dust and splinters are generated | hook up a shop vac and adjust the saw's blower nozzle so that dust is quickly removed from the cut |
| medium amount of noise, but close to the operator's head | wear ear defenders |

if the power has been lost for whatever reason, always switch the power button to "0" before restoring it! |

Changing Saw Blades
We mostly use quick-release saw blades with pins on both ends, do not screw these in or they will break! Saw blades without pins have to be secured by screws on both arms of the machine.
- unplug the machine
- turn the tensioner (knob in the back) counterclockwise to loosen
- push the top arm down
- unhinge or unscrew the saw blade from the top and bottom arm
- insert a new saw blade (teeth pointing down, pins carefully hooked in their grooves or screws tightened)
- turn the tensioner clockwise until the blade makes a high-pitch noise when plucked
- continue working
