Pot hinges are adjustable in all directions after mounting and exist in two main variants: for doors outside/in front of the frame (vorliegend) and for doors within the frame (innenliegend).
The hole, or "mortise", needed to mount a pot hinge is typically cut with a Forstner drill bit.
