eccentric sanders: very useful for finishing surfaces
delta sander: lightweight & can get into corners
sheet sanders: somewhere between eccentric and belt sanders
belt sander: for agressive removal at the risk of leaving visible marks (lines)
oscillating tool: can be equipped with triangular sanding pads that reach into very tight corners
