Edging shoes need to be used for workholding on the sliding table saw whenever you are trimming thick and/or warped boards that Fritz & Franz can not hold securely.
Instead of the classic approach with an edging shoe in the back and an "edging helper" featuring only anti-slip nails in the front, we made a second edging shoe for the front.
Get another Maker to help you with heavy or strongly warped boards! There must be no movement of the workpiece during the cut at all - if you do not find a stable orientation, take off some high points with a scrub plane first.
Edging shoes are typically not used together with the parallel fence as the workpiece has no straight reference yet.
In rare cases where the parallel fence may be used (e.g. ripping a warped board to the width of the jointer), it must be pulled out in front of the sawblade so the workpiece only touches it before the cut.
